Car drives into petrol station window

UPDATED: Police are investigating a crash in which a car was driven into a window of a petrol station in Tauranga.

Police were called to the scene of the crash at Gull on Hewletts Road at about 2pm.

A police spokesperson says nobody in the shop was injured. 

"Ambulance and Fire are attending to the elderly occupants of the car."


A car has driven through the front window of a Tauranga petrol station on Hewletts Road.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a car has driven to the shop window of Gull.

They say an elderly couple were in the car and there only appears to be minor injuries.

Noooo no noPERSON drives into service stationOk, I’m assuming it wasn’t a driverless car.Could be wrong though.

Let me guess- automatic transmission, elderly driver,wrong gear selection, 1.5 tonne car launched forward by pressing on one pedal: this wouldn’t have happened with a manual transmission car...
