Lights display an enchanting scene

The Strand turned into a scene out of a fairy tale with hundreds of people braving the cold to see the Winter Nights | Winter Lights display last night.

The free, all-ages event features an interactive light installations by Angus Muir, a magical projection of light onto a cascading wall of water, food stalls and more.

Tauranga City Council’s city events manager Gareth Wallis encourages people to head out tonight and check out the display.

“It’s so easy to curl up in front of the fire and hibernate in winter. But Tauranga’s Winter Nights | Winter Lights is designed to pull us out of our pyjamas, grab our woolly hats and embrace the colder months by coming together to celebrate.

“Winter Nights | Winter Lights will create a visually spectacular event right in the middle of the school holidays so you can keep the kids up a little bit later and enjoy the shows.”

If you missed it last night, don’t fret. The display is on again tonight with light installations, laser shows on a cascading wall of water and food stalls.

Don’t forget: buses are running on an extended hours schedule - check
