Two children have been flown to hospital following a series of medical events earlier this week.

A spokesperson for the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter says one of the incidents happened on Wednesday.

"An 8-year-old girl with a post-surgery tonsil bleed, required urgent specialist surgery and was flown on a rapid-response flight from Whakatane to Tauranga Hospital on Wednesday by the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter.

"On Thursday a seven month old boy was flown from Whakatane hospital to Waikato hospital.

"He required specialist surgery for an abscess that was compromising his airway. He was airlifted to Waikato Hospital accompanied by his Grandmother."
