One person has been arrested after police descended on a property in Welcome Bay this morning.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in relation to a firearm at an address on Kaitemako Road.

A police spokesperson says he will appear in Tauranga District Court on Thursday, and that there was a warrant for his arrest.

“Firefighters and the armed offenders squad were there as a precaution, however no one was injured,” she says.

“There was no risk to neighbouring properties.”

A witness who called SunLive says police were there after 6am this morning, and were using a loud hailer to call the occupants out of the house.

He says four people were taken away before police used ‘tear gas' to encourage another person out of the house.
