Armed police have surrounded a property in Welcome Bay this morning as part of a search warrant.

A caller to the SunLive newsroom says police arrived early this morning at the property on Kaitemako Road, near Panorama Drive.

He says police were using a loud hailer to call the occupants out of the house.

"They've taken away four people," he says. "Then they used two lots of tear gas and got one more person out."

The caller says several marked and unmarked police vehicles were at the property.

A police spokesperson would not provide more details at this time, other than to say the Armed Offenders Squad is assisting with a search warrant on Kaitemako Road.
