An 18-month-old baby is one of many flown to hospital on New Year's Day in what the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter crew describes as a busy start to the year.
A spokesperson says the helicopter was dispatched to Whakatane Hospital to help transport the baby to Starship Hospital.
“An 18-month-old baby had an obstruction in his lungs. He was flown to Starship Hospital for further treatment and assessment.
“Not long after returning, the rescue helicopter was dispatched to Rotorua Hospital where a 57-year-old male had a serious medical condition requiring immediate surgery.
“He was flown on a rapid response flight to Waikato Hospital.”
The rescue helicopter was then called to help with a search and rescue operation.
