A boat capsized tipping a person into the water at the Kaituna river mouth in Maketu.

Police received a report at 6.45am that the boat had flipped causing the man to climb onto the overturned boat for safety.

“The person was wearing a life jacket and had climbed onto the hull of the boat and was assisted by a jet skier, who was in the water at the time, while the coast guard responded,” says a police spokesperson.

The man was rescued from the water and was treated by an ambulance with mild hyperthermia.
