One dead in police chase crash

One person has died and another is in a critcal condition after a car crashed in Leamington, near Cambridge, following a police pursuit.

Police have confirmed they attempted to pull over a vehicle at about 6.45pm, after receiving a driving complaint.

After the driver failed to stop, a brief pursuit was initiated before the fleeing vehicle crashed on Scott Street, near the intersection with Moore Street.

"One occupant of the vehicle has died at the scene," says Senior Sergeant David Raffan.

"A person with critical injuries and another with moderate injuries, have been transported to Waikato Hospital.

"The driver of the vehicle has minor injuries and is currently speaking with police."

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash.

The IPCA will also be notified of the pursuit.

Although sad a life has been lost, it seems some idiots on our roads just do not get it.Bad choice by the driver, sad consequences!!
