Tauranga man in indecent assault arrest

Photo: File.A 41-year-old Tauranga man has appeared in court after reports of indecent assaults on children at a Queenstown swimming pool.

The alleged assaults happened in the lazy river area of Alpine Aqualand between Thursday 8th and Wednesday 14th June.

The man appeared in Queenstown District Court today and has been remanded in custody on three counts of indecent assault to a child under the age of 12.

Police were informed of the first report yesterday, and have laid three charges since arresting the alleged offender at the pool yesterday afternoon.

He is due to reappear in court on 26th June, and police have confirmed they are also speaking to other concerned parents.

The victims and their families are receiving ongoing support, and Queenstown Police encourage any parents or guardians who have concerns about their child to come to the station or call: 03 441 1600.

Police believe the man is the sole offender and are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incidents.
